GENERAL SANTOS CITY- With the theme “Sama-saya ng mga Heneral sa Paskong Global”, the Local Government Unit of General Santos City in partnership with the Department of Education officially opened the Pasko sa GenSan on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Oval Grandstand.
The event was made possible through the leadership of General Santos City Mayor Ronnel Rivera with the DepEd XII Regional Director Allan Farnazo and ASDS Mario Bermudez. The DepEd is the prime-mover of this annual Pasko sa Gensan.
Students from different schools in the city showed off their world-class talents through dancing and singing as they performed different celebrations of Christmas around the world.
Pasko sa GenSan also featured Senior High School Bazaar showcasing different products made by senior high school students.
RD Allan Farnazo gladly welcomed those who are present to witness the opening ceremony.
City Councilor Rosalita Nuñez, Committee Chairperson on Education, gave a message reminding everyone of the real meaning of Christmas.
“We tend to forget the focal point of our celebration. It is our Lord Jesus Christ. Christmas is love. It is a season for giving, sharing, forgiving people who have wronged us and to ask for forgiveness,” Councilor Nuñez said.
ASDS Mario Bermudez gave his heartfelt gratitude to those who were behind the preparations for Pasko sa GenSan. He specifically thanked City Mayor Ronnel Rivera, the SP headed by the vice mayor and the city councilors as well as RD Allan Farnazo, DepEd XII ARD Atty. Fiel Almendra and everyone present during the event including the DepEd division officials, school heads, teachers, and students.
City Councilor Jose Edmar Yumang led the countdown for the fireworks display and the lighting of giant Christmas tree to mark the opening of this year’s Pasko sa GenSan.
Entries for the Wonders of the World were also showcased and featured in this year’s celebration where Generals can freely access at Oval Plaza.
